Mawiza
مَوْعِظَةThe right dua, at the right moment.
Maw’izah means gentle counsel: a reminder offered kindly, to the heart. The opposite of a lecture. Named from the Quran (10:57, 16:125).
Why it exists
There was a thunderstorm over Toronto one Saturday, and I realised I could not remember what we are meant to say when it comes. I knew there was something. I just could not hold it in the moment I needed it.
I kept thinking there should be an easier way to remember. That thought became Mawiza. Sometimes we remember and sometimes we forget, and a gentle nudge turned out to be all it really took.
What it does
Meets the moment
Rain, travel, worry, gratitude, sleep. Mawiza surfaces what belongs to where you actually are, instead of asking you to go find it.
Shows its sources
Every dua carries its citation on the card: Quran surah:ayah, or hadith collection, number and grading. Nothing asks to be taken on trust.
Prays on your clock
Prayer times, Qibla and the Hijri date are computed on your device from your location. No lookup, no round trip.
Never guilts you
Reminders are opt-in one at a time, respect quiet hours, and are capped so they stay a nudge. Missing one costs you nothing.
Sourcing is the product
Most of what circulates as dua online has no chain attached to it. Mawiza takes the opposite position: if a text cannot be traced, it does not ship.
- Quranic text and hadith wording come verbatim from authoritative references and are checked against the source by a person, not generated.
- Repetition counts say plainly whether they are prescribed in the sunnah or customary practice. Viral claims are not laundered into either.
- Where a grading is contested or a chain is weak, the card says so rather than quietly dropping the entry or quietly keeping it.
The same discipline runs through the ninety-nine names: each English rendering is matched against named published translations, and the app shows how many carry it.
Private because there is nothing to collect
There is no Mawiza account, and no Mawiza server anywhere. Your favourites, progress and settings live on your phone and are never uploaded, because there is nowhere to upload them to.
One optional feature reaches the network: weather, which is off until you turn it on. The privacy page names exactly what is sent, to whom, and what they say they keep.
Getting it
Mawiza is in preparation for the App Store, with Android to follow. It is not yet generally available.
